My Approach

My approach is warm, collaborative and supportive. I listen carefully to what concerns you and work closely with you to help you reach your short- and long-term goals. I would invite compassion and curiosity for yourself while offering different perspectives on what may contribute to challenges and stresses. Your cultural experiences and how you identify are integral to who you are, and exploring such experiences enriches the therapy process. Most importantly, I believe that developing a cooperative working relationship with you is essential for bringing about healing and lasting changes in your life.

I draw upon various methods that include relational and psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, somatic and mindfulness-based skills, Buddhist principles and crisis management. I also value a social justice approach that considers how historical and institutional systems of oppression impact a person’s psyche and health and the communities that they identify with.

Here are examples of possible questions that we could begin exploring together:

  • What brings you to therapy at this time? What feels important to talk about?
  • Can you tell me about the hopes and goals you have for yourself?
  • What has helped you get through some hard times?
  • What are some of your strengths, and who would you consider as part of your support network?
